Pixcellence Photography employs three generations of artists - by Lynda Graham
Jane Adams joined the business in 2005 initially as an Art Director. Her early career was as a hair stylist and colourist. She trained in London and Kent, working on many celebrities, and later specialized in dressing the hair of brides.
After raising her three children, Jane went back to college and obtained a diploma in art and design. She knew very little about photography but whilst composing the bride and groom at wedding shoots she soon became very keen to learn and be involved in the photographic side of things.
Jane has since become a trained colour reprographics technician and is able to use her wide creative skills in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and creating the digital wedding album designs.
Pixcellence wedding photography set up an all digital studio last year and after some basic training in photography, plus what she has learned as a photographer’s assistant, Jane is able to use her creativity in shooting family portraits.
Jane says “I love the glamour of wedding photography especially the two and three day Asian weddings, the colours are stunning and I enjoy working in a studio with controlled lighting where there is less pressure which allows me more freedom to work with my subject”.
Jane comes from a family with a long history in art and design and her own children are following in her footsteps. Jane’s son Joe joined Pixcellence Photography in 2007 after obtaining distinctions in Art and Design at college. His combined skills as an artist and computer operator has allowed him to take virtual control of the post production department. Joe has no photographic experience but like his mother, he is realizing that modern photography is an applied art and he is very keen to gain experience as a wedding photographer.
Jane’s father, Ray, was a keen amateur photographer prior to setting up Pixcellence Photography in the days of digital vs film. Unlike his wife, daughter and grandson, he lacked painting skills but chose instead to concentrate on photography.
Ray is delighted with the new digital cameras currently available, but sticks to applying his film training to wedding and studio photography rather than using machine gun tactics in the hope that some images will be good.
Ray says “Nikon’s mastery with high ISO facilities allows me to shoot wedding in low light conditions without the need of flash and by shooting RAW I am able to retain sufficient data which makes things easier for Jane and Joe to complete the finished product.”
